Book Pool Challenge | Starts Jun 2016

Have you heard of a Book Pool Challenge?

I have only seen this type of reading challenge done in the Crazy for Young Adult and Crazy for New Adult groups on Goodreads. I really loved taking part and I thought that I would start this up for the Book Lovin’ Kiwis group.

All you do is,

  1. Ask each person in the group to recommend 3 books to add to the “Pool”. Avoid duplicates.
  2. Set a timeframe. Ours are one or two-month challenges.
  3. At the end of the month, close the Pool and invite the group to read any or all of the books.
  4. If people want to join after the close date, they can claim points, but not add new books to the pool.
  5. 1 point per book read.

booklovinkiwis-goodreads-profileSo as an example, Book Lovin’ Kiwis are having a two monthly challenge. Today, I opened a new thread on Goodreads asking for participants to name their three books. The Pool will close on 31 May. The reading begins on 1 June and continues til 31 July. You can join whenever you like, but there will be no pool entries once pool has been closed. You can pick any genre book, they can be novellas, poetry, short stories, graphic novels, chunky reads, you name it.

It’s the stress-free way to readathon. Zero pressure. It’s all about reading what you want and maybe finding something in the Pool that piques your interest.

You are more than welcome to join us! Check out the Book Lovin’ Kiwis Group on Goodreads for more info.

2015 Reading Challenge FAIL!

2015 GoodreadsWHAT A FAIL! I had hoped to read 100 books in 2015.

I only managed to read 86 books this year. I one hundred percent blame the big fat month long reading slump I had halfway through the year. I really hope that doesn’t happen in 2016.

I’m pretty much writing off January as I will be finishing up my job in Gisborne, packing up our flat & moving city with my husband. We don’t have a definitive move date and it’s already the 1st Jan 2016.

Although Bout of Books is in a few days… so maybe I can treat myself to a few books if I can get the bulk of packing done by then? Maybe that’s setting a too high expectation on my packing capabilities. I’m more of a slow and steady wins the race type. Wish me luck.

Happy New Year everyone. Wishing us all the best reading year!

Harryxmastoyou

It’s a readawatchalongathon! Try saying that 3x really fast.
Let’s break it down: Readalong, Readathon, Watchalong, Watchathon. It’s a 4-in-1 special. You’ve got the whole month of December to do all of the above! It’s gonna be FUN! FOLLOW @HarryXmasToYou! OMG. there is even sign ups for Houses on Dec. 1. That’s me!

Ive read the series more than once but each time there are little things that I never remember or hadn’t noticed. Hello Giggles picked up a few & they thought it was worthy to read again!

It’s gonna take a little planning, as I’m still down like 20 books for the goodreads challenge, but WE CAN DO IT! I’m committed to this. I’m spending xmas with the in-laws and I barely get a few pages in, but if it means waking up early or staying up a little later, then I WILL DO IT!

I don’t particularly want to carry the box set around with me, so I’m gonna line up the e-books or audio-books from the library. I’d prefer the audio because I haven’t heard them before and Stephen Fry isn’t bad on the ears. I hope to read the books prior to the watch-alongs, but it’s totally up to you how you wanna take part.

If you wanna watch-along with everyone, all movies will start at 7pm CST (time converter)
1 – Dec 5th
2 – Dec 9th
3 – Dec 12th
4 – Dec 16th
5 – Dec 19th
6 – Dec 23rd
7 part 1 – Dec 26th
7 part 2 – Dec 30th

There’s gonna be a different host for each book, so watch the video below on youtube to get all the host links.

So put it in your calendar now. December 2015: #HarryXmasToYou

3rd Quarter Update | 2015 Reading Challenge

3 more months to go! BOOM!

As of today?

I’ve read 62/100 books.

And what about those pesky New Year’s Resolutions?

  • Catch up on series I’m partway through, with high priority on series that are now completely published. Well… let’s just say, I’ve started more series than I have finished. But seriously, I’ve finished off 5 series so far.
  • Reading standalone books I already own, especially all those books I purchased from the library’s annual sale (100’s!!!). ummm…. what’s a standalone? lol.
  • NOT reading any books that are first in a series, unless its a spin-off series of something I have read before. Yeah, #fail. I’ve read a number of firsts, and it was worth it!
  • I can only add a book to my TBR if I have read a bookYEP, that went out the door. I love books.
  • I will not buy any books! I bought a couple of adult color-in books. THEY DONT COUNT! I bought a colour in book today for my birthday in a couple weeks.
  • I will not request books on Goodreads or BookThing, unless they are series continuations that are already in progress. I always request books, but I never get them… so I don’t feel so bad. Reviews have taken a back burner because I’ve been so many books behind schedule since like May. I will definitely focus on getting ARCs next year.
  • When gifting books, I will try buy books from my local bookshop, or Book Depository for free shipping purposes. Something for me to consider for Christmas.

So… Can I read 100 books this year?

Of course!

Winter is being released this last quarter so I have every intention of getting my grabby little hands on that. That’s one book I will devour. So with 38 books to go, that’s 12-13 books a month. There must be a hand in my back everyday. No cutting corners. I’ve really gotta push myself.

Wish me luck!

August Book Pool

Even though I have heaps of other Reading Challenges to catch up on, I decided to sign up for a Book Pool Challenge. Talk about a crazy idea!   I’m so busy!   I’m livin’ life on the edge!

Here’s the deets:
It’s being hosted on Goodreads by the Crazy for Young Adult Books group. You can sign up anytime in August but get in quick because so many people have already started reading & even crazier, people have finished more than one book so far. It’s only the fourth of August people! Have a rest. You look tired. Put that book down…

I haven’t started a single book towards this yet. I have one more to finish from last month and a review to write for next week… then I will get started. Beat me to it. I dare you!

Anyhow, I signed up prior to 1 Aug so I got to pick 3 YA books for the pool.

My picks are:

Pivot Point (Pivot Point, #1) by Kasie West Pivot Point #1

City of Heavenly Fire (The Mortal Instruments, #6) by Cassandra Clare City of Heavenly Fire (The Mortal Instruments #6)

Frostbite (Vampire Academy, #2) by Richelle Mead Frostbite (Vampire Academy #2)

I thought I had already finished The Mortal Instruments but that must have been a really good dream. My progress will be posted here too.

My Goal:
To read 2 books a week.

I’m dreaming again, because I have work and an assignment due in a few days with another not too far behind that. But what’s a challenge without a little motivation. Get those assignments done so I can read more, more, more!

If you’re just a little bit crazy like me, go ahead and sign up. Click the banner to join the group. I’ll race ya to the very finish line!
