Wishlist Wednesday #7 – Xmas Edition

Happy Holidays!

As a booknerd, I don’t have to think about the amount of books I wouldn’t mind tucked under the Christmas tree. There are stacks of books I would love to read, or love to own, so I’ve limited myself to 5. Here are my picks for

Wishlist Wednesday Dec15

#1 – All the Bright Places by Jennifer Niven

This book won the Goodreads Choice for Young Adults. I’ve had it out of the library on ebook twice and I’ve only managed to read a few pages. Just from that though I could ‘feel all the feels’ coming, so I put it aside for when I could really dedicate my time and focus to it. It’s been published for almost a year and I still haven’t read it!

#2 – Confess by Colleen Hoover

I’ve read this and I rated in 5 stars. I’ve even used some of the artwork within for my phone wallpaper. Colleen Hoover writes amazing New Adult Romance. I’ve read a few of her works now and anything new I automatically add it to my TBR because I know it’s going to be great. I wouldn’t mind this on my bookshelf.

#3 – A Court of Mist and Fury by Sarah J Maas

This is expected for publication in May 2016, so I know it’s not gonna be under my Xmas Tree but I really enjoyed A Court of Thorns and Roses. I hadn’t read a retelling of Beauty and the Beast before and I’m not sure if that’s the best way to describe it. I really should learn my lesson and wait to read series when they are complete because I WANT THIS NOW!

#4 – Harry Potter (Boxed Set) by J. K. Rowling

I have never owned the whole series. I’ve got 2 books on my shelf and one is on permanent loan from a friend because I never returned it, lol. The other is a hardcover that I wouldn’t mind owning the boxed set for. So, in honour of #HarryXmasToYou, I wouldn’t mind the boxed set under my Xmas Tree.

#5 – The Great New Zealand Colouring Book

To keep the fire burning for my new passion, I add this NZ Colouring Book to my wishlist. I couldn’t even find it on Book Depository! I love colouring in, and I need to get me some proper pencils and in a wider range of colours. There’s only so much I can do with 12-15 colours, especially when you have themed books like Lost Ocean. How many different ways can you colour the sea?

For New York Kings’ first baseman Scott Harper, scoring women is easy. He’s ready to get naked anytime, anywhere. But when a hacker leaks his nude selfies, he’s unprepared for the scrutiny his full-frontals receive.

Carrie McKenzie has a love-hate relationship with her body. No longer the fat chick guys can ignore, she wins the job as the Kings’ clubhouse reporter. With her svelte new figure, she nabs an exclusive interview with Scott to get his take on the scandal.

However, the two are already on a first-name basis after Scott came on to her in the hotel bar, and she woke up in his arms. The problem is that Scott doesn’t do relationships and Carrie doesn’t date jocks, yet the way they burn up the sheets is deserving of more than just a one-night stand.

Scott shows Carrie that he has a sweet, caring side beneath all the swagger. But can she really trust her heart to the biggest player in the game?

I turn around, and my eyes zero in on the door. My heart starts hammering in my chest because Scott is standing there looking absolutely incredible in a crisp, white shirt and tight, black pants. “Oh my God, he came alone,” I mumble, hardly believing it to be true as my heart skips a beat. Ithought for sure he’d want to show me up by draping some rail-thin model on his arm. “Damn it. Why does he always have to look so amazing?”

“‘Cause he’s Scott Harper,” Grey chuckles. Chase is waving Grey over, and she gives me a wry grin.

“Poor Jake never stood a chance, did he?” She gives my hand a quick squeeze before moving through the crowd to join her husband. I turn my back to the revelry and face the wall, trying to collect myself. This is going to suck so bad. Yeah, I accepted Jake’s offer just to piss Scott off because I’d thought he’d bring one of his past flames in a surefire tit-for-tat move, but he didn’t. Now, I feel like an idiot. I thought Scott didn’t want to be seen with me in front of his teammates because I don’t quite measure up to the standard he’s used to. But this is a couple’s party, and he flouted the rules and came here stag, willing to be the odd man out, just because of me.

He’d asked me to go with him and I’d said no, but he hadn’t asked anyone else either. He’d been serious. He hadn’t just offered me some secondhand invitation because his friend had beat him to it. He really wanted to go with me, and I messed it all up by coming with Jake.

Damn it. I feel myself start to shake, but then a familiar hand grazes the exposed skin on my back, making me shiver.

“Hey, Care Bear.”

I glance over my shoulder, and Scott’s face is so close that I can almost taste the velvety softness of his lips. I’m lost in the moment as I find myself turning into his strong, hard frame, loving how his hand never leaves my body. Instead, his fingers skim the curve of my waist, following my every movement. His gray eyes are stormy with desire when we finally come face to face. He wasted no time in coming over to me, and my heart flutters at the thought. He’s sending a clear message: He’s here because of me, and he doesn’t care who knows it.

» About the Author
Collette West grew up as somewhat of a jock-nerd hybrid. Entering the world three weeks premature, her dad nearly missed her birth because he had seats behind the dugout for a sold-out, highly-anticipated match-up between two of baseball’s biggest rivals. Not to be outdone, her book-loving mom taught her how to read by the time she was three. A love of the game coupled with an appreciation for the written word were instilled in Collette’s impressionable brain from a young age. No wonder her characters believe in the philosophy: sports + romance = a little slice of heaven.

Splitting her time between the Pocono Mountains and Manhattan, Collette indulges her inner fangirl by going to as many games as she can from hockey to baseball and downloading every sports romance novel in existence onto her iPad. When she’s not clicking away on her laptop, she enjoys walking her dog in Central Park, satisfying her caffeine craving at the Starbucks on Broadway and keeping an eye out for Mr. Right. But above all, she loves dishing with her readers. Email her at collette_west@yahoo.com.

She is the author of NIGHT GAMES and GAME CHANGER.

There is danger in dreaming. But there is even more danger in waking up.

Blue Sargent has found things. For the first time in her life, she has friends she can trust, a group to which she can belong. The Raven Boys have taken her in as one of their own. Their problems have become hers, and her problems have become theirs.

The trick with found things though, is how easily they can be lost.

Friends can betray.
Mothers can disappear.
Visions can mislead.
Certainties can unravel.

» Why is it on my Wishlist?
I found this YouTube clip of Maggie Stiefvater outlining her top ten reasons why you should read this series. I think this must’ve been after book 2 because the kiss that happens, and doesn’t happen… Plus the cars… And the Latin jokes… all appear in book 2.

Blue isn’t your typical YA girl. She has a dysfunctional psychic family and weirdly became friends with a bunch of oddball guys & one ghost.

» Recommend to:
All YA fans. It sort of reminds me of kids movies from back in the day, like The Sandlot Kids. Before young romance became a popular YA genre. This is not a love story… Yet, anyway.

And look at the cover. It’s beautiful.

In the final electrifying novel in the House of Night series, Neferet has finally made herself known to mortals. A Dark Goddess is loose on Tulsa and the world. Only Zoey Redbird is heir to such power…but because of the consequences of using Old Magick, she is unable to help. Find out who will win and who will lose in this epic battle of Light versus Darkness.

» Why is it on my Wishlist?

Honestly? If you’ve read up to book 11 then you are committed and will see this series through to the end. It is gonna end at some point right? But why should it be on your Wishlist? Let me count the ways. House of Night is a paranormal vampire series nothing like Twilight. It’s probably best read at a young teens age but I’m mid twenties & still reading it. There is an exciting twist or turn of events with each book. Although you could probably pick up book 10 & feel like you haven’t missed anything. It’s all about a young student who finds herself some new friends at their vampire school who together with their elements, create a powerful circle (a little like Secret Circle) to fight the evil in Darkness.

» Recommend to:

I’m with this series to the end. I’ve gotta finish what I start unless I really don’t like a book. But I would recommend this to early teenaged girls. There are a couple of cat fights between friends & enemies, a little love interest for the straight & gay, and a weird love triangle but it doesn’t last too long.

Mara Dyer wants to believe there’s more to the lies she’s been told.
There is.
She doesn’t stop to think about where her quest for the truth might lead.
She should.
She never had to imagine how far she would go for vengeance.
She will now.
Loyalties are betrayed, guilt and innocence tangle, and fate and chance collide in this shocking conclusion to Mara Dyer’s story.
Retribution has arrived.

» Why is it on my Wishlist?

Mara Dyer is such a captivating series. The first two books are intense and twisted with a little bit of romance and the right amount of dark thriller-ish-ness. Yep, that’s a word. You never know what’s gonna happen. When you think you have it sussed, it’s like BAM. I bet you didn’t think of that! and Noah… poor boy. He has really matured in The Evolution of Mara Dyer. Totally fell in love with the right girl. Overall, this series will keep you up at night because you don’t want to put the books down. And then once you’ve finished, you won’t be able to sleep because it’s just sooo…. What! Just! Happened!!! (and for fear of nightmares). My guess, Retribution will be just as suspense-filled as the rest of the series!

» Recommend to:

If you’ve read the first two books, then this is a MUST! Honestly, I’m not one for scary books but this is pretty excellent! It’s YA so that’s a tick in my books. I probably wouldn’t give this to children to read. It certainly isn’t a book for everyone. But if you’re tired of the same old high school romance story, then give Mara Dyer a go.
